Technical Supervisor – Pharmacy Services Temporary Full Time

Purpose of Position:

Sault Area Hospital is presently seeking a highly motivated individual who is able to lead a health care team in a constantly changing and complex environment in Pharmacy Services. 

To supervise the daily operations of the Pharmacy department ensuring safe, high quality, efficient customer service is provided to the organization.  To provide supervisory and support for staff, ensure compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, establish work plans and develop cooperative and productive work teams.  The supervisor will act as point of contact for departmental staff and other hospital departments and as a practicing worker on the team.

Duties

  1. Directly supervises the activities of assigned employees and ensures employees are following proper guidelines in the performance of their duties.
  2. Provides support for assigned staff for matters of a procedural, legislative, quality or patient confidentiality nature, as applicable.
  3. Proposes ideas for goals, strategies, and or policies which support improved work procedures or increased revenues.
  4. Develops cooperative and productive team relationships within the department fostering a climate of teamwork, compassion, excellence and integrity.
  5. Ensure ongoing quality assurance and competency assessment of processes and staff.
  6. Maintains necessary statistics and records.
  7. Maintains regular communication with other departments.
  8. Functions as a role model, demonstrates good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  9. Supports service improvement initiatives on shift; ie performance huddles.
  10. Assists with leader rounding and ensures basics of care are successful.
  11. Assists in ensuring compliance with Ontario College of Pharmacist standards, including sterile compounding supervision.
  12. Prioritizes workload in own area.
  13. Accountable for shift to shift inter-professional collaboration.
  14. Assists in supporting processes improvement initiatives and looks for opportunities to improve processes.
  15. Identifies successes/ achievements (incl. staff) for internal and/or external communications.
  16. Refers all public or media inquiries to Communication/Public Affairs.
  17. Ensure patient safety strategies are followed.
  18. Participation in and leading organizational medication system transformation projects
  19. Ensure all work meets established quality standards (e.g. data entry).
  20. Support positive SAH image publicly and internally (as per Standards of Performance).
  21. Promote a healthy work environment in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety and Human Resource Standards.
  22. Assist in development of communications strategies/plans/messaging as needed.
  23. Assume other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Post secondary diploma/certificate in related field
  2. Registration with Ontario College of Pharmacists
  3. 1 year experience in a healthcare related field
