Registered Psychotherapist – Mental Health and Addictions – Concurrent Disorders Day/Evening Treatment Program – Full Time

The Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is currently recruiting for a Social Worker assigned to the Mental Health and Addictions Program – Concurrent Disorders Day/Evening Treatment Services. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary mental health and addictions team and will liaise with the diverse mental health programs within the hospital and community. 

 

DUTIES:

  1. Provide advanced, specialized services and psychotherapy to clients and/or their families on an outpatient basis.
  2. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct initial assessments and develop personalized intervention plans; interview clients individually, in the family context or in groups to determine and evaluate the client’s social, financial, psychological, cultural and family situation.
  3. Provide individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy for clients with concurrent disorders.
  4. Participate in the development and adjustment of programming, treatment plans, including case conferences and meetings with clients and families.
  5. Educate clients, families, and the public on concurrent disorders and available resources.
  6. Make referrals to appropriate community treatment alternatives and services along the MH&A continuum of care.
  7. Engage in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  8. Analyze findings of assessment to assist in developing a care plan with the appropriate referral source.
  9. Develop therapy practice(s) to assist in resolving complex problems regarding concurrent disorders.
  10. Collaborate with members of hospital staff, community partners and other persons or groups seeking guidance in an effort to address the needs of the clients.
  11. Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  12. Develop and maintain good working relationships with other hospital and medical staff and community partners while remaining a client advocate.
  13. Participate in peer supervision and serving in a consultative role with other staff, as requested.
  14. Participate in weekly multi-disciplinary meetings, monthly meetings.
  15. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
  16. Comply with organizational policies, procedures and standards.
  17. Participate in In-Service programs regarding the social and emotional components of health/illness and their effects on patients and families.
  18. Maintain accurate client records and statistical reports as required.
  19. Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling and social programs.
  20. Assuming other duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of Social Work Degree, Masters of Counseling or equivalent.
  • Registration with an appropriate governing College.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years’ recent experience providing Motivational Interviewing (MI/ME), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma informed and trauma specialized care including Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).
  • Experience coordinating care planning and treatment programs
  • Proficiency in a Microsoft environment including experience in the development of spreadsheets, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Visio
  • Skill and experience in bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment and care and the ability to link clients with the appropriate services are essential.
  • Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).

 

   KNOWLEDGE & SKILL

 

  • Experience in the delivery of evidence based individual and group therapies is required.
  • Experience Providing family based therapy including family sessions, psycho-education .
  • Experience working in a community-based, outpatient program or regional program
  • Experience providing group and individual treatment and counselling, across the age span.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to provide public education, group presentations and teaching to staff, patients, families, and community members
  • Knowledge of local and provincial resources is required.
  • Knowledge of the DSM-V, concurrent disorders, crisis intervention theory, suicide risk assessment, and techniques an asset understanding and ability to implement requirements outlined in the Mental Health Act required
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills including the ability to relate well with others and adapt style as needed.
  • Excellent assessment skills and the ability to synthesize information into clear concise reports for other members of the multidicipinary team. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and deal effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behaviour, motivational techniques and counselling skills (e.g. teaching patients).
  • Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
