Registered Practical Nurse – Assessment Centre – Temporary Part Time

Purpose:

The Assessment Centre operates on a cohesive network of varied skill sets that work in unison so to provide a seamless experience for the community and health care workers. The role of the RN is multi-faceted in that it requires the staff to follow ever changing ranged algorithms determining criteria for assessments in correlation with a triaging system that involves registered staff and community wide scheduling. The position reflects a strong collaborative skill set with a multi-tasking component as well as very intuitive interpersonal skills with the general public and a multi-disciplinary team.

The work is high paced and built on medical directives that are disseminated with high turn overs in answer to Ministry driven changes.      

Duties:

  1. Effectively uses the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of the patient.
  2. Assessing patients via telephone, triaging direction related to algorithm discerning clinical presentation for assessment in centre or drive up.
  3. Providing NP swabbing technique for patients
  4. Maintaining high level of specimen integrity for preparation and storage.
  5. In centre assessments and proper document processing.
  6. Collaborating with management and staff in process change based on Ministry of Health guidelines.

Qualifications:             

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.

Knowledge:

  • Strong demonstrated phone and verbal intake communication and strong independent decision making.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft, Meditech, Community Wide Scheduling environment

Ability:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
  • Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s mission statement and core values
