Registered Nurse- In-Patient Mental Health- Part Time

Duties:

  1. Participate and collaborate with Mental Health and Addictions Program, other health care providers and community partners in provision of patient care.
  2. Effectively use the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient.
  3. Provide educational support to staff, patients and family on psychiatric issues.
  4. Liaise closely within the Mental Health Program through attendance at interdisciplinary rounds, team and family meetings, discussions with EPS staff, and provide leadership in developing and implementing care plans, etc.
  5. Use evidence based practice in the provision of education and patient care.
  6. Conduct a nursing assessment and mental status exam of the psychiatric patient.
  7. Work closely with the psychiatrists/delegates, emergency physicians, emergency nurses, Crisis Intervention, family physicians, other interdisciplinary team members and community partners to provide care to the psychiatric patient.
  8. Provides assistance in planning corrective actions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
  9. Is compliant with legislation, organizational and departmental, regulations, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of competency in Ontario.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Training and demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough nursing assessment of patient history, presenting illness, mental status and other relevant psychiatric assessments

  • Ability to work independently and interdependently as part of a team
  • Understanding and ability to implement requirements outlined in the Mental Health Act
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships
  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact courtesy and alertness in public contacts
  • Knowledge of and ability to liaise with community resources
  • Demonstrated Behavior consistent with Hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Standards of Performance.
