Health Information Coordinator – Innovation – Temporary Full Time

The Health Information Coordinator facilitates access to information required for evidence-informed clinical practice, education, decision making and research to staff and physicians at Sault Area Hospital (SAH). The Health Information Coordinator supports the health sciences library by providing resource materials and information in print, electronic format, and audio/visual formats to medical and hospital staff in support of their delivery of high quality patient care.

 

Reporting to the Director of Innovation, this position ensures that the basic research functions of the SAH Health Sciences Library are carried out in an efficient manner, consistent with SAH policy and appropriate standards for medical and hospital libraries. This position also supports the research infrastructure at SAH. This work involves advising medical and hospital staff to fulfil requirements for research proposal approvals, providing assistance during the conduct of studies, and managing a repository of research activity for tracking and reporting.

 

Job Duty – Library Services

  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of library services. This includes assessing and evaluating end-user needs; addressing user needs accordingly, and preparing usage reports.
  • Order monographs and serial publications, both in print and electronic format, under the leadership of the Director. Maintain a current collection of literature appropriate to the needs of medical and hospital staff; and take inventory.
  • Provide mediated literature search service to support the patient care, education, and research activities of staff and physicians. Educate staff and physicians regarding the use of electronic and print resources; work with patient care teams and respond to information needs; provide end-user instruction and training for bibliographic databases and electronic resources.
  • Provide instruction for accessing, searching, and evaluating evidence and articles using the internet and other electronic tools.
  • Provide document delivery/interlibrary loan circulation service and ensure that these services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Track and monitor the library budget, working under the supervision of the Director, to ensure the efficient use of resources within approved plans.
  • Support the maintenance of library policies and procedures.
  • Support innovation with regard to further developing SAH library services.

 

Job Duty – Research Services and Knowledge Translation Plan:

  • Assist with navigation of hospital approval processes, completion of internal research-related forms and data sharing agreements.
  • Offer search consults and services for systematic review-level research studies.
  • Provide support for the Director, members of the SAH Research Advisory Committee, and associated working groups and committees (e.g., notes, meeting packages, presentations, and scheduling).
  • Increase the establishment of research partnerships, consortia and institutes. Includes supporting seed fund strategies to support research activity.
  • Support the refresh of the SAH Research and Knowledge Translation Plan.
  • Engage stakeholders in the research community at SAH, facilitate information gathering meetings, collate findings, support qualitative analysis for the final report.
  • Work with external agencies and groups on research partnerships to inform SAH’s Research and Knowledge Translation Plan in order to address research priorities for the hospital in the context of our community.
  • As part of the plan, support enhanced participation in research and securing grant funding by: Contributing to increasing the number of active research projects (multi-site studies; SAH studies) and the total value of grant funds received. Contribute to measuring the impact of research on patient care, knowledge translation and evidence-informed practice.

 

Staffing and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in research, report writing.
