Addiction Services Worker – Mental Health and Addictions – Concurrent Disorders Day/Evening Treatment Services – Temporary Full Time

The Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is currently recruiting for an Addictions Services Worker assigned to the Mental Health and Addictions Program – Concurrent Disorders Day/Evening Treatment Services. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary mental health and addictions team and will liaise with the diverse mental health programs within the hospital and community. 

 

DUTIES:

  1. Engage and screen perspective community and district clients, supporting those meeting admission criteria and referring others to the most appropriate service.
  2. Provide orientation to services including mutual expectations.
  3. Facilitate and score relevant assessments & perception of care tools (SS&A & OPOC etc.).
  4. Ensure that individuals are being connected with community resources
  5. Maintain accurate client records and statistical reports as required.
  6. Maintain compliance with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
  7. Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development.
  8. Actively participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  9. Remain current in knowledge and application of best practice pertaining to withdrawal management through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
  10. Consistently behave in a manner that reflects Sault Area Hospital’s core values and Employee Standards of Performance.
  11. Maintain ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients, co-workers, other departments and agencies.
  12. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  13. Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum two (2) year Community College Diploma in a health or social sciences field.
  2. Required recent experience working with those impacted by moderate to severe concurrent disorders within a health care environment or community environment.
  3. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and First Aid certificate required.
  4. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Proficiency in a Microsoft environment including experience in the development of spreadsheets, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Visio
  2. Skill and experience in bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment and care and the ability to link clients with the appropriate services are essential.
  3. Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).

  2. Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.

  4. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.

  6. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position. 
  7. Knowledge of self-help groups and harm reduction strategies. 
  8. Knowledge of – Ontario Withdrawal Management Standards, addiction, housing and mental health services.
  9. Knowledge of evidence based treatment modalities – Stages of Change and Biopsychosocial Model. 
  10. Knowledge of relevant legislation – Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act. 
  11. Ability to provide effective support to chemically dependent people through employment in a related service. 
  12. Utilize effective crisis management skills in dealing with client’s behavioural or emotional complications.
