Maria Coccimiglio, Pharmacist
Congratulations to Maria Coccimiglio, Pharmacist on receiving her infectious diseases certification through Board Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), the premier post-licensure certification agency worldwide.
BPS operates across the pharmacy profession to provide specialty certification to pharmacists in 14 areas. The BPS Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist program is a credential for pharmacists who specialize in the use of microbiology and pharmacology to optimize antibiotic therapy for patients, while decreasing adverse events, complications, and resistance.
This certification is the gold standard with only 1,285 infectious diseases pharmacists worldwide and 16 in Canada. “I am thankful for the opportunity to work with a wonderful, supportive team at SAH,” says Maria. “This certification promotes and validates the role of pharmacists as experts in medication management,” she adds.
Maria was accepted into this program due to her many years of experience with SAH’s Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP). The ASP is a multidisciplinary team which includes representatives from Infection Control, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and Nursing. Their goal is to improve patient outcomes by optimizing treatment of infections and decrease over-exposure to antibiotics when they are not needed.
We recognize Maria for her ongoing dedication to patient care excellence and we congratulate her on this incredible accomplishment!
