SAH is pleased to share we earned Accredited with Commendation!

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Sault Area Hospital recently underwent an on-site survey by peer reviewers from Accreditation Canada. The surveyors evaluated the extent to which SAH meets over 2800 national standards of excellence. The standards focused on topics that included governance, leadership, infection prevention and control, medication management, and a number of clinical services.

We are proud of the work our dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers put into achieving this decision and maintaining safe, high-quality healthcare services. Being accredited is a significant achievement, and we are fully engaged in what the accreditation process offers – the opportunity to continually improve the delivery of safe, quality care.

Following the assessment, surveyors noted several areas of strength at SAH. We were recognized for our collaboration through our varied partnerships. The surveyors highlighted our work with local educational institutions and as a growing hub of health research with approximately 30 studies underway. Our community partners also confirmed that “this place (SAH) is outstanding” and described their relationship with SAH as being caring, welcoming, reliable, collaborative and inclusive.

Additionally, the surveyors acknowledged that since the last accreditation survey in 2019, we have initiated several changes to programs and services and assumed a leadership role in managing COVID-19. The on-site survey demonstrated to the surveyors that SAH is valued by the patients, families, staff, physicians and by the community.

We are grateful to our staff, physicians and volunteers for their commitment to quality improvement. We thank them for their ongoing commitment to providing safe and quality care to our patients every day. We are committed to continuing our quality improvement work at Sault Area Hospital.
