COVID-19 Assessment Centre to Close March 31

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Effective March 31, 2023, the COVID-19 Assessment Centre on Drive In Road will close. Shoppers Drug Mart on Second Line will take over testing for those who are eligible:   https://www.ontario.ca/page/covid-19-testing-and-treatment.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH), in partnership with Algoma Public Health and Group Health Centre, opened the COVID-19 Assessment Centre on March 18, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. “We are grateful that our healthcare partner, Shoppers Drug Mart, will now begin providing COVID-19 swabbing for our community,” says Ila Watson, President & CEO of SAH. “We would like to thank Shoppers Drug Mart, our Assessment Centre partners, and the wonderful staff who have provided this valuable service for 3 years.”

Since the opening of the COVID-19 Assessment, staff have performed almost 80,000 COVID-19 PCR swabs. The testing volume peaked at 7,373 tests in November 2021. The total number of tests performed in February 2023 was 355, our lowest monthly volume to date.
