Duties:
- Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in provision of patient care.
- Programming of pacemaker during implant.
- Provide post implant care and device follow-up for clients with implanted pacemakers and ICDs.
- Effectively use the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient.
- Provide health teaching to patients and family.
- Provide symptom assessment and targeted physical assessment of patients within the scope of nursing
- Provides assistance in planning corrective actions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
- Is compliant with legislation, organizational and departmental, regulations, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
Qualifications:
- Certificate of competency in Ontario.
- BCLS competency.
- Demonstrated competency in advanced ECG rhythm interpretation.
- Demonstrated competencies related to IV Therapy.
- Formal completion of education for pacemaker interrogation and programming as per CCN guidelines
Experience:
- Strong background in cardiovascular physiology, electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation
- Trained in device management, including operating the device analyzer, programmer and to support the technical aspects of the implant procedure.
- Demonstrated competency of capture and threshold testing.
- Working knowledge of pacemaker programming.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Minimum 2 years’ previous experience in ICU and/ or cardiac cath lab.
- ACLS certification required current within last two years with experience
Skills and Ability:
- Demonstrated clinical competency in the management and care of patients.
- Knowledgeable in the utilization and care of all mechanical equipment required for patient care.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s mission statement and Values.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact. Courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
