SAH Seeks Patient and Family Advisors

– Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is seeking Patient and Family Advisors to join our Patient and Family Advisory Council(s). Our goal is to continually improve the patient experience by ensuring that health care staff and patients work together as partners in care.

Councils contribute to the hospital’s ability to achieve the highest quality patient outcomes by listening to the voice of the patient, addressing the patient experience and implementing positive changes and process improvements throughout hospital services. Better health care outcomes, wiser allocations of resources, and greater patient satisfaction will be achieved by working together. Over the past five years, the hospital has grown the advisory program and now has upwards of 80 patient and family advisors volunteering in various capacities across the organization.

SAH is seeking applications from individuals who have recent experiences obtaining care from the following areas and are interested in serving on the following Patient and Family Advisory Councils:

      • Algoma Regional Renal Program
      • Algoma District Cancer Program
      • Mental Health and Addictions Program
      • Emergency Department
      • Hospital Wide
      • Resource Pool

Candidates should have had a recent interaction with hospital services (ideally within the past year) as either an inpatient, outpatient, caregiver/family member, or loved one of a patient. We are looking for people who are willing to be open, honest and committed to providing meaningful and thoughtful input to improving the patient experience at SAH.

An effective patient and family advisory council reflects the diversity of the people served by SAH and the broader community we share. A diverse council ensures that the decisions being made reflect, and respond to a broad range of lived experiences across various social and cultural backgrounds.  Therefore, we welcome and encourage all applicants from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
