- Vaccination Requirements for Visitors Under Review
November 2, 2021 – To ensure a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors, SAH is developing a policy that will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all visitors.
There will be limited exceptions to this policy. We anticipate these exemptions will be similar to our existing policy, which includes special considerations for
- parents/guardians of paediatric patients
- labouring mothers (support persons during and following delivery)
- a patient experiencing a life-altering event (end of life, critically ill, trauma)
- a vulnerable patient (cognitive impairment, significant developmental, intellectual disability, or unable to effectively communicate)
We anticipate that this policy change will be implemented in the coming weeks. SAH will provide updates as we prepare for the implementation of the vaccination requirement.
NOTE: VACCINATION IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR PATIENTS TO ACCESS CARE. Individuals should not avoid or delay seeking medical care when needed.
We remind our community that it takes at least five weeks from the first dose to be considered fully vaccinated. If you anticipate an upcoming visit to SAH, please consider booking your vaccination now. You can find up-to-date information about where you can get vaccinated on the Algoma Public Health Website.
SAH continues to assess the environment and make decisions regarding the management of COVID-19 by following best practice guidelines and advice from public health.
We know these changes can be challenging for patients or providers. We thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we ensure the continued safety of our patients, health care workers and community while providing patient-centred care.
