- Call Assessment Centre for COVID-19 Testing
September 20, 2020 – Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is seeing a large influx of patients presenting to the Emergency Department for COVID-19 testing as result of possible exposure or workplace requirements. This trend is having an impact on our ability to provide regular care to our emergency patients.
COVID-19 test results performed through the Emergency Department are not faster than those tests performed in the Assessment Centre. Rapid in-house COVID-19 testing is ONLY available to those patients who are being admitted or inpatients. We are asking our community to please contact the Assessment Centre at (705) 759-3434, ext. 7152 for COVID-19 testing and not present to the Emergency Department. If you require urgent medical care, please proceed to the Emergency Department.
Beginning September 11, our Centre began COVID-19 testing for children 2-13 years of age. For more information, please click here Assessment Centre COVID-19 Testing for Children. As a result of this and other contributing factors, our Assessment Centre, like most centres across the Province, is experiencing major surges in volume. The Assessment Centre has now expanded its hours of operation from 8 am to 8 pm to 8 am – 10 pm daily.
The Assessment Centre is open to any person 2 years of age or over who:
- does not have symptoms but are concerned they have been exposed to COVID-19
- does not have symptoms but are at risk of exposure to COVID-19
- has any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (even mild ones)
- does not meet the above criteria but were referred for testing by a health care agency such as 9-1-1, Health811, Algoma Public Health, their primary care provider or occupational health department
We thank our community for their patience and cooperation.
