Registered Nurse – Emergency – Temporary Full Time

Purpose:             

This position is a temporary position to support the Virtual Queue project as an ED clinical expert. This individual will provide essential expertise in triage, Meditech, ED workflow, and the Emergency Care Triage Acuity Scale (ECTAS).

Duties:

  1. Consulting with the project team on workflow development, EMR build, and ED-specific considerations.
  2. Ensuring the Virtual Queue interface with ECTAS and Meditech is technically sound and does not introduce operational inefficiencies.
  3. Preventing the development of workflows that would create additional challenges for ED triage staff and other ED personnel.
  4. Identifying and optimizing patient care pathways based on clinical expertise and firsthand knowledge of ED operations.
  5. Leading staff education and training before and during the Virtual Queue go-live period.
  6. Providing direct support to staff during the post-implementation phase to ensure a smooth transition and workflow adoption.

Qualifications:             

  • Certificate of competency in Ontario.

Experience:

  • 1 year Emergency nursing experience or 3 years nursing experience
  • Previous experience as a ONE super-user
  • Experience with HIS (health informatics system) Meditech project implementation including education of staff
  • Knowledge of interface between eCTAS and Meditech expanse and HL7 interface
  • Experience with chart correction processes including resolution of errors in both applications- meditech and eCTAS (requires ectas admin access)

Skills:

  • Demonstrated competencies related to IV Therapy.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office software
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the management of care of patients in emergency.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to Emergency.

Ability:

  • Knowledgeable in the utilization and care of all mechanical equipment required for patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced environment in a positive manner and work independently as well as part of the multidisciplinary team
