DUTIES:
- Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care for both inpatient and outpatient cardiology
- Assesses patients by obtaining relevant history and completing physical exam,
- Initiates orders for treatment(s), medications, and diagnostic tests according to findings and collaborates with cardiologist as needed.
- May initiate and/or participate in emergency measures in cath lab
- Develops treatment plans for the patients under her/his care, which may be carried out by other professionals such as physiotherapists, respiratory therapists and nurses.
- Evaluates outcomes based on clinical skills/judgement and patient improvements.
- Dictates discharge summaries, which set out the diagnosis, treatment and discharge instructions.
- Participates in family meetings and discusses plans of care, discharge and end of life issues with patients and /or their families/substitute decision maker.
- Provides learning opportunities for students and other professional staff.
- Accepts shared responsibility with designated physicians for the effective design, operation and evaluation of the service provided by the program.
- Participates in the development of order sets, quality initiatives, clinical pathways or medical directives for the care of the patients in the program.
- Where appropriate is a consultant and resource to the Health Care Team on each unit and the community as required. Manages various areas clinically in collaboration with Hospitalist physician.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse Extended Class Licence currently registered with the College of Nurses Ontario, required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) current within last two years
EXPERIENCE:
- Recent ICU or ED experience.

- Ability to organize and prioritize workload and patient care needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team, and exercise judgment by participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care according to college standards
- Demonstrate application of knowledge of specialized patient care requirements / skills, and specialized equipment as appropriate to
the clinical area.
- Demonstrated competency in the application of the College of Nurses Nurse Practitioner Standards of Practice including the performance of designated controlled acts.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills to perform the duties of the job.
- Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
- Demonstrate human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, and understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).
- Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position, including the ability to relate well to others and adapt communication style as needed.
- Demonstrate behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.
- Knowledge of Quality and Risk Management Programs
- Demonstrated proficiency with use of computer in Windows/Microsoft environment, and with hospital based software (Meditech)
