Pharmacy Services
Sault Area Hospital’s Pharmacy team members are the first line of defense for the safe and appropriate use of medications at the hospital. They review orders for clinical appropriateness (dose, route, rate, frequency, contraindications) and then accurately prepare about 2,000,000 doses of medication each year!
Pharmacists’ roles have expanded over the years to be clinical medication experts. They participate in patient care rounds, Antimicrobial Stewardship rounds, the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Medication Safety Committee and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. We have pharmacy professionals supporting our Clinical Informatics and Collaborative Practice teams. Our Registered Technicians and pharmacy assistants take a leading role distributing medications throughout the building and are frequently involved in quality improvement initiatives to improve the safety and cost-effectiveness of medications.
