- Keeping You Safe: Assessment Centre
There are over 120 assessment centres across the province to test Ontarians for COVID-19.
Since the onset of the Pandemic, the goal of our local Assessment Centre is to keep our community safe by screening for COVID-19. The Centre is staffed by clerks, registered nurses and registered practical nurses. Since the onset of the Pandemic, the Centre has conducted a total of 26,636 tests. A total of 75% of tests were done to clear essential workers and caregivers/visitors to long term care.
“Our Assessment Centre has created strong partnerships with many other health organizations in our community. In a partnership with Emergency Medical Services, the Centre works to reduce barriers to testing by picking up individuals and bringing them to the Centre for a test,” says John Wolfe, Manager of the COVID-19 Assessment Centre. “A mobile unit also works with long term care facilities to coordinate COVID-10 testing for staff. In addition, we work hand in hand with Algoma Public Health”, he adds.
Our team at the Assessment Centre are responsive, agile and supportive as they have had to adjust quickly to ongoing changing government guidelines. “All those who began working at the Assessment Centre last March are still working here so it speaks to their commitment. I want to acknowledge our wonderful team for the vital role they play in keeping our community safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
The Sault Ste. Marie COVID-19 Assessment Centre is located on Drive In Road and a test appointment can be made by calling (705) 759-3434, ext. 7152.
