Featuring Dr. Rami Abazid, Cardiologist

We welcome Dr. Rami Abazid, Cardiologist, to Sault Area Hospital and our community. Dr. Abazid began working in our cardiac care services in May 2024.

He was born, raised and completed his internal medicine and cardiology training in Syria. Dr. Abazid worked for 14 years as a consultant cardiologist in Saudi Arabia before moving to London, Ontario. Specializing in multimodality cardiac imaging, he completed fellowships in Echocardiography, Cardiovascular CT and Nuclear Cardiology at Western University.

Dr. Abazid was recently invited as adjunct scientist for the Lawson Health Research Institute in London, and as member of the writing group of the Nuclear Cardiology Knowledge Self-Assessment Module (NCKSAP 2024) of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

An avid researcher, Dr. Abazid’s work has been published in over 60 papers/journals. “I am very passionate about research and I plan to continue this important work at SAH.” His research has been recognized by several organizations. Since joining SAH in May 2024, he has had 3 papers accepted for publication in international journals. He received the Radiological Society of North America Roentgen Award in both 2022 and 2024 which recognizes outstanding residents and fellows who have advanced radiologic research. He also recently received an award for best abstract submitted to the Canadian Society of Echocardiography’s annual meeting.

Our new facility and the community drew Dr. Abazid to Sault Ste. Marie. “I prefer smaller communities and I really like this facility and the fact that I have access to top notch diagnostic equipment,” he says. “My colleagues and everyone I meet are always friendly, welcoming and helpful, making this transition very easy.”

Dr. Abazid enjoys the outdoors, swimming and cycling. His family will soon join him in Sault Ste. Marie. His son and daughters are excited to play soccer, volleyball and basketball.

We welcome Dr. Abazid and his family to SAH and Sault Ste. Marie!
