SAH welcomes Dr. Jeff Curran, Intensivist and Internal Medicine Specialist to our hospital and community!
Dr. Curran is originally from the Manitouwadge/Wawa area and his family moved to Sault Ste. Marie before he began his post-graduate studies. “My plan was always to return home,” he says. Dr. Curran completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of Windsor, and a Masters degree in Interdisciplinary Health at Laurentian University before attending medical school at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University in Thunder Bay. He then completed his internal medicine specialty at McMaster University and his critical care specialty at Queen’s University.
Dr. Curran began working as an Intensivist and in Internal Medicine at the end of August 2023. He also worked as a locum at SAH for the last year and completed some clerkship training at SAH while in medical school. “I love my work and it is a privilege to work with the critically ill. The hospital is cutting edge, the team is second to none, and the collegiality is excellent.”
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Curran worked as a forest firefighter for 9 years and worked in Canada and the United States. “I learned a great deal from this experience including skills I applied to my medical school training. I also saw it as an opportunity to give back to Northern Ontario,” he says.
In his spare time, Dr. Curran enjoys the outdoors including hiking, camping and scuba diving. He also enjoys spending time with his new dog.
Welcome Dr. Curran!
