Welcome to Dr. Matthew Laviolette, General Surgeon to Sault Ste. Marie and SAH. He is originally from the community of Tara in Bruce County and grew up on a farm.
Dr. Laviolette is one of the first two graduates of the Honours Bachelor of Science and Paramedicine program at the University of Toronto. After working as a paramedic for 5 years, Dr. Laviolette decided to pursue a career in medicine and attended the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Ottawa last spring and recently began his first independent practice in our community. “I have received 100% social and professional support from staff in the operating room, colleagues and administrative at SAH,” he says. “Everyone has been genuine, welcoming and friendly.” Dr. Laviolette and his wife both grew up in rural areas. “We felt that Sault Ste. Marie was a great fit and a wonderful community in which to raise children.”
Dr. Laviolette and his wife have 3 children and 1 on the way. “There are wonderful activities for children in this community such as swimming, dancing, the Conservatory of Music, Art Gallery and so much more. I am looking forward to getting the kids involved in outdoor activities like skiing, camping and mountain biking.” In his spare time, Dr. Laviolette enjoys playing the guitar and is hoping to take up biathalon in the near future.
We welcome Dr. Laviolette and his family to our community!
