- Dominique Ninnes, Patient Advisor
Dominique Ninnes has volunteered at SAH as a Patient Advisor since 2017 and is currently in her second term as Co-Chair of the Emergency Department (ED) Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). She has also volunteered in the Emergency Department since 2018, assisting patients and staff.
Dominique is the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Delta Hotel and has worked in the hotel industry for over 21 years. A few years ago, she was looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity and wanted to give back to the community. “I wanted to give my time and I was looking for an opportunity to meet new people. I was also receiving care at SAH at this time so when the opportunity arose, it was a perfect fit.” The primary role of the Patient and Family Advisor is to bring forward insight and suggestions that will ultimately improve the patient’s care experience. “I love my role as co-chair of the Emergency Department Patient and Family Advisory Council. The group is highly engaged and each member brings their own unique story and perspective.”
The ED PFAC has focused on items such as signage, communication and the ED Wait Clock. “We are keen to share our knowledge with the community and foster a better understanding of the ED system.” According to Dominique, she had gained great insight into how the Emergency department works. “I can’t put into words how much I have learned about the health care system and the operation of the Emergency department over the last few years,” she explains.
In her volunteer role, Dominique enjoys working with the staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and families. “It’s rewarding to interact with so many patients who are grateful for the care they receive. I love interacting with the patients.” Dominique also speaks highly of the competent team in the ED. “They are amazing and we are lucky to have a caring, competent team.”
In her spare time, Dominique loves spending time with her husband and her dogs. She enjoys 4 wheeling, snow machining and jet skiing. Dominique grew up in Bruce Mines and as a young girl, enjoyed barrel racing with her dad. “I still love horse riding to this day.” She also enjoys going for walks in the bush with her dogs.
We sincerely thank Dominique for her many valued contributions at SAH, our Emergency Department and especially our patients!
