Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) plays a critical role in supporting the healthcare needs of the Algoma district. Every year, SAHF aims to provide more than $5 million to ensure that Sault Area Hospital can replace ageing equipment, purchase innovative technology, and expand services where possible. With this funding, SAHF empowers Sault Area Hospital to continue providing the best possible care to every person in Algoma.
Summary of Position
Donor Engagement reports to Director, Philanthropy, and is responsible for cultivating relationships with large segments of donors and prospects to increase connection, support and revenue of Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF). This role engages with a portfolio of approx. 400-800 donors and prospects, building long-term relationships that strengthen philanthropic support for SAHF
Job Duty- Portfolio Management
- Receive strategic guidance from the Director, Philanthropy, to engage with donor groups and channels that contribute to cultivation and stewardship of donors and supporters.
- Build and strengthen donor relationships through individual and personalized outreach, including stewardship calls, thank-you calls, and ongoing engagement.
- Together with team members, implement fundraising programs to achieve annual fundraising goals.
- Engage groups of donors and prospects using mass communication via phone, text, social media, bulk email, automated messaging, events, and print communications.
- Apply strategies to guide donors through the giving cycle, including identification, qualification, and gift development.
- Conduct donor research and requalification using giving history, engagement data, and other indicators.
- Stay current with fundraising best practices, donor trends, and relationship management strategies through ongoing professional development.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Job Duty- Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records, including engagement plans, next steps, and activity tracking within the donor database.
- Analyze donor segments in the donor database/CRM and portfolio performance to inform fundraising strategies and decision-making.
- Contribute to revenue forecasting and goal-setting for assigned donor portfolios.
- Generate reports and insights to support team planning and inform strategy development.
- Conduct research on donor trends, segmentation strategies, and fundraising best practices to enhance strategy effectiveness.
- Maintain proficiency in donor database systems and research new digital tools to support evolving fundraising strategies.
- Ensure compliance with SAHF and Sault Area Hospital (SAH) policies and procedures.
Job Duty- Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify and research key stakeholders to support strategic outreach and relationship development.
- Draft compelling donor communications, including correspondence, proposals, impact reports, and presentations.
- Support the development of additional revenue streams through effective stakeholder engagement.
- Support planning, promotion, and attendance of SAHF events, including third-party fundraising initiatives as required.
Staffing & Licensing Requirements
- University degree, college diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in sales, communications, fundraising, or in a relationship-centered field (preferably local, in healthcare or human services).
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation or commitment to pursue designation an asset.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM systems is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license.

- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member.
- Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
- Proficiency and accuracy in clerical tasks including data entry, keyboarding, filing systems, documentation etc.
- Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
- Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
- High level of privacy sensitivity working in a healthcare environment.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment and ability to use other computer and online applications.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
