Your Right to Privacy
We are committed to protecting your personal health information in accordance with Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). To respect your privacy, our staff cannot share any information about your admission, condition, or your baby’s status with anyone — including friends or family members. This means we are legally unable to provide updates over the phone or in person to those who contact the unit.
We kindly ask that you designate your support person to keep your loved ones informed, and encourage others to avoid calling the unit for updates, as we are not permitted to release any details.
Supporting Learning While Respecting Your Care Preferences
During your care, you may encounter medical learners such as medical students, residents, nurse practitioners, midwives, physician assistants, and nursing students. We recognize the value of clinical learning and respect your preferences regarding their involvement in your care.
Please let us know if you prefer not to involve learners in your care. If you would like a second attendant present during your visit, please request one, and we will accommodate you. We appreciate your valuable contribution to the education of these learners.
