- Featuring Dr. Haitham Sakr, Interventional Cardiologist

An Interventional Cardiologist is a highly specialized physician who uses minimally invasive, catheter-based techniques to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease, structural heart conditions, and vascular disorders.
Originally from Egypt, Dr. Sakr is a permanent resident of Canada and holds an academic license to practice in Ontario. He completed his undergraduate and medical education in Egypt and brings more than 13 years of cardiology experience from Saudi Arabia, where he worked across public and private hospitals as well as academic institutions.
Reflecting on his first visit to SAH, Dr. Sakr shared, “I came to Sault Ste. Marie and Sault Area Hospital four months ago, and it immediately felt like I was with family. Everyone was welcoming and made me feel supported and at home.” He added, “The entire SAH team has been incredibly helpful and caring, making my relocation smooth and seamless.”
Dr. Sakr was also impressed by the hospital’s facilities, particularly the state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs. “I was amazed to learn that SAH has two cardiac cath labs. This hospital is doing great work, and I’m truly happy to be part of the team,” he said.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sakr has co-authored several research papers and has a strong interest in teaching. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, swimming, exercising, and playing tennis. He also looks forward to exploring the natural beauty of Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Sakr to SAH and to our community.
