Tarentorus Public School Students Become First Fast Heroes 911 Graduates in Northeastern Ontario

May 8, 2025 –The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) and the Sault Area Hospital (SAH) Stroke Program are proud to announce a significant milestone in local health education. Through a dynamic new partnership, the internationally recognized Fast Heroes 911 program has been introduced to Grade 1 to 3 students across the region, beginning with Tarentorus Public School.

The Fast Heroes 911 initiative is an award-winning global health education campaign designed to teach young children how to recognize the signs of stroke and respond quickly in an emergency. By equipping students with life-saving knowledge, the program helps them become vital links in the chain of survival for loved ones and members of their community.

ADSB students were invited to engage in this five-week multimedia adventure, with one 45 to 60 minute lesson each week, led by their classroom teachers. The program features interactive e-books, student workbooks, and storytelling guided by retired superheroes and their grandkids, making the learning experience both fun and memorable. Each superhero introduces children to a different stroke symptom—all linked to dialing 911—helping reinforce the importance of quick action.

All teaching materials are provided to educators completely free of charge, ensuring easy access and wide reach in local schools.

Grade 2 and 3 students from Tarentorus Public School are now set to become the first Fast Heroes 911 graduates in Northeastern Ontario, marking a moment of celebration and pride for the community.
