SAH Receives Trillium Gift of Life Awards

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – April is Be A Donor Month – a month that is dedicated to raising awareness for organ donation to help save more lives through transplants. Sault Area Hospital (SAH) supports organ donation and we have maintained excellent results throughout the pandemic.

We recognize all organ donors and their families their incredible gifts. In 2021/2022, SAH had 7 organ donors, which led to 25 organs donated for transplant, and 2 tissue donors enhancing the lives of many individuals. In recognition of this important work, SAH has received the Provincial Conversion Rate Award for reaching a conversion rate of 78 percent, which exceeds the target of 63 percent set by Ontario Health (TGLN). Organ donation is a complex process, and the conversion rate reflects how well Ontario Health (TGLN) and SAH work together to save lives. This is our fourth year receiving this award.

SAH also received the Provincial Eligible Approach Rate Award for exceeding the provincial eligible approach rate target of 90 percent set by Ontario Health (TGLN), achieving 95 percent in 2021/2022. The Eligible Approach Rate Award recognizes hospitals for demonstrating leading practices by facilitating a donation discussion between Ontario Health (TGLN) and eligible patients/families of patients at end of life. This is our second year meeting this target.

We thank our dedicated staff and physicians for their hard work and their role in supporting organ donation and the gift of life.
