SAH Leadership Transition Update

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Sault Ste. Marie, ON – The Sault Area Hospital Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Greg Zambusi as Interim President and CEO, effective June 27, 2026, following the retirement of current President and CEO Ila Watson.

The appointment will ensure continuity and stability in organizational leadership while the Board continues its recruitment process for a new President and CEO, with the expectation that a permanent candidate will join the organization in the fall.

“Greg is a highly respected healthcare leader with a deep understanding of our organization, our people, and the healthcare needs of our community,” said Mark Lepore, Chair of the Sault Area Hospital Board of Directors. “The Board is confident in Greg’s leadership and his ability to guide the organization through this transition period while continuing to support high-quality patient care, staff engagement, and strong regional partnerships.”

Greg currently serves as Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at Sault Area Hospital. Over several years, he has played a key leadership role in advancing organizational priorities, supporting fiscal stewardship, strengthening system collaboration, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives across the hospital and region.

“I am honoured to support Sault Area Hospital in this interim role,” said Greg Zambusi. “SAH is supported by an exceptional team of staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, and partners who are deeply committed to delivering quality care for our community. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with teams across the organization during this transition period.”

The Board also recognized the leadership and contributions of outgoing President and CEO Ila Watson, who will retire on June 26, following years of dedicated service to Sault Area Hospital and the broader healthcare system.

Further updates regarding the President and CEO recruitment process will be shared as they become available.
