We welcome Dr. Neerja Sharma, Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OBGYN) to SAH and Sault Ste. Marie!
Born in India, Dr. Sharma completed her training and OBGYN fellowship in India before moving to 4 different countries in the middle east over the course of 10 years. During this time, she became familiar with the Arabic culture and language and she is also fluent in Punjabi. She then worked in Wales before moving to Toronto to complete a Fellowship in Advanced/High Risk Obstetrics. Dr. Sharma also completed her residency in London at Western University and became certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2013. She comes to our community from the Chatham region where she has practiced as OBGYN for the last 10 years.
Having served a rural area in Southern Ontario, Dr. Sharma was keen to explore the North. “I have an adventurous spirit and I was drawn to the beauty of Northern Ontario,” she says. “I have travelled all over the world and this area is so beautiful and unique – I cannot believe how lucky I am to be in this exquisite community.” Dr. Sharma speaks highly of the people at SAH. “Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and I am impressed by how well-organized my onboarding and orientation process has been. The hospital facility is beautiful and also well-organized.”
Dr. Sharma will be working with the Group Health Centre and in SAH’s Prenatal Clinic. “I want to serve in communities where there is a need and serving patients with compassion is what guides my practice.” She is passionate about providing gynecological care from adolescence to menopause and has a special interest in cervical cancer screening and colposcopy.
In her spare time, Dr. Sharma enjoys exploring and travelling and has a wide variety of interests. “I have done sky diving and edge walking on the CN Tower but I also enjoy photography and writing poetry.”
We take this opportunity to welcome Dr. Sharma and her family to our community and to our hospital!
