Supervisor- Food Services- Temporary Part Time

Purpose of Position:

 To supervise the daily operations of the department ensuring safe, high quality, efficient customer service is provided to the organization. To provide supervisory and technical support for staff, ensure compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, establish work plans and develop cooperative and productive work teams. The supervisor will act as point of contact for departmental staff and other hospital departments and as a practicing worker on the team.

Duties: 

  1. Directly supervise the activities of assigned employees and ensure employees are following proper guidelines in the performance of their duties.
  2. Provide technical support for assigned staff for matters of a procedural, legislative, quality or patient confidentiality nature, as applicable.
  3. Propose ideas for goals, strategies, and or policies which support improved work procedures or increased revenues.
  4. Develop cooperative and productive team relationships within the department fostering a climate of teamwork, compassion, excellence and integrity.
  5. Maintain necessary statistics and records.
  6. Maintain regular communication with other departments.
  7. Function as a role model demonstrate good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  8. Support service improvement initiatives.
  9. Assist with leader rounding and ensure basics of care are successful.
  10. Prioritize workload in own area.
  11. Accountable for shift to shift inter-professional collaboration.
  12. Accountable for shift quality and patient safety results.
  13. Ensure all patient safety and quality of care processes are followed.
  14. Assist in supporting processes improvement initiatives and look for opportunities to improve processes.
  15. Support positive SAH image publicly and internally.
  16. Attend and facilitate/support attendance at various workshops.
  17. Identify successes/ achievements for internal and/or external communications.
  18. Refer all public or media inquiries to Communication/Public Affairs.
  19. Assume any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Post secondary diploma/certificate in related field.
  2. One-year experience in a healthcare related field.
  3. Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  4. Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
  5. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  6. Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  7. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
  8. Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
  9. Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.
  10. Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills.
  11. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
  12. Experience in an interdisciplinary team or team environment including ability to provide guidance and supervise staff.
  13. Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  14. Ability to work independently, think creatively, manage own time and take initiative.
  15. Demonstrated strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  16. Demonstrated conflict resolution and relationship building skills.
  17. Ability to compile schedules and prepare work assignments in accordance with organizational policies and applicable Collective Agreements.
  18. Able to interpret and apply hospital policies and Collective Agreement language.
  19. Analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to identify and implement remedies in the workplace.
  20. Displays strong initiative- can establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them within defined timeline.
