Sanitary Collector- Waste Management- Part Time

Duties:

  1. Collect waste, including recyclable/sorting, throughout the facility and transport to designated area for disposal.
  2. Operate trash and cardboard compactors, package wastes for appropriate disposal.
  3. Maintain waste management department in a clean orderly manner at all times. This may include washing the walls, ceilings and scrubbing floors.
  4. Complete records, forms and reports as required by the guidelines.
  5. Empty the waste containers at the outside entrances.
  6. Keep the upper and lower area of the dock washed and cleaned.
  7. Drive the department owned vehicle to collect outside waste containers and to dispose of battery waste at the cities collection depot.
  8. Collect any old equipment, furniture, etc for disposal from the units and departments.
  9. Wash the waste containers and the large waste bins on the units when soiled. Wash out the transport cart.
  10. Collect glass and battery waste from the dirty utility rooms on the units.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Experience:

  • Previous experience within waste handling in a health care setting is an asset.

Ability:

  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of and complies with legislation and regulation governing the handling and disposal of bio medical waste.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
