Research Intern – Research Office – Sault Area Hospital – Temporary Full Time

Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Manager of the Research Office, the Research Intern will work with our team of diverse researchers with qualitative, quantitative and evidence syntheses backgrounds. The Research Intern will have opportunity to work with staff and physicians in many different medical specialties and areas of the hospital, including infectious diseases, Indigenous health, oncology, cardiology, emergency medicine and more.

The Research Intern will work on research projects by completing various duties such as data collection, record keeping, literature reviews, chart reviews, data analysis, and writing academic articles for publication. The Research Intern will work closely with the SAH Research Office to ensure research objectives, timelines, and requirements of the process are met.

Duties:

  1. Assist with data collection utilizing a variety of methods including surveys, chart reviews, interviews, and focus groups, etc.
  2. Undertake background research literature searches and environmental scans
  3. Assist with study start-up, implementation and recruiting participants for on-going research studies
  4. Assist with research grant applications, study design, and study approval processes (research ethics board)
  5. Prepare annual reports for funders and research stakeholders
  6. Interpret and prepare research findings, including organizing data into graphics, tables, and reports
  7. Present findings in various including research posters, academic conferences and research publications
  8. Assist with engagement-related activities, including preparing communications, community sessions, plain language research summaries, webinars, and workshops
  9. Collaborate with other partner organizations and members of SAH
  10. Work in accordance with TCPS2, SAH Research Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and OCAP principles (where applicable)
  11. Other duties as required

Staffing and Licensing Requirements/Qualifications:             

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences or related field
  • Previous research or analytical (1-2 years) work experience is an asset
  • Previous grant writing experience is an asset

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of various research methodologies and statistics (qualitative, quantitative)
  • Oral and written communication skills to discuss and document progress
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and problem solve issues that arise during the course of work
  • Ability to apply sound research and project management techniques
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
  • Strong academic writing skills using proper citation style
  • Demonstrated proficiency with use of Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of basic computer equipment and multi-function devices.
  • Displays strong initiative to establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting those deadlines within defined timeline
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Hospital Standards of performance, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of organization’s mission, vision and values.
