Registered Technologist- Radiology- Diagnostic Imaging- Temporary Part Time

Purpose:

The Medical Radiation Technologist is responsible for the efficient and effective completion of ordered DI examinations and the day to day operation of the area to which they are assigned within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Technologists are responsible for the safe dispensing of controlled energy sources as defined by the Regulated Health Professional Act including ionizing radiation.

Duties:

  1. Exam and equipment preparation
  2. Ensure an orderly work area
  3. Prepare patients
  4. Prepare contrast
  5. Arrange equipment needed
  6. Prioritize waiting exams.
  7. Perform DI Exams( Including but not limited to Fluoroscopic, CT, Mammography, Interventional procedures).
  8. Confirm patient and exam identification (Double Identify)
  9. Obtain consent and verify pregnancy potential
  10. Assist Radiologist as needed
  11. Position the patient as required for examination or treatment
  12. Perform procedures involving the application or administration of ionizing radiation only when the conditions under the applicable legislation (including, without limitation, the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act and its regulations
  13. Perform only those controlled acts that have been authorized, or exempted or accepted under the legislation, or delegated in accordance with the legislation and the Comprehensive Guidelines.
  14. Use radiation protection devices and other patient protection devices as required.
  15. Instruct the patient on breathing and movement procedures.
  16. Ensure that the orientation of the body and other pertinent parameters are marked correctly on the image.
  17. Documentation and Assessment
  18. Ensure the exposure provides optimum image quality while using minimal radiation.
  19. Ensure examination results provide all the information requested in the order.
  20. Carry out the procedures ordered.
  21. Assess the patient’s condition during the course of treatment or procedures and respond accordingly.
  22. Determine if the image is of sufficient diagnostic quality or if additional or repeat images are necessary.
  23. View and complete exams and paperwork in PACS and Meditech at exam completion.
  24. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  25. Miscellaneous Duties
  26. Ordering of Departmental Supplies and requisitioning maintenance service in emergencies or on weekends.
  27. Trouble shoot to resolve technical equipment problems and determine the need to call service.
  28. Perform ECG Testing.
  29. Transfer exams to TraceMasterVue ECG Management system.
  30. Promote professionalism within the Department with particular emphasis in confidentiality, personal appearance and teamwork.
  31. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:             

  • Graduate from an Accredited school of Medical Radiation Technology
  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (C.M.R.I.T.O)

    • Fixed Fluoroscopic C-Arm Units
    • Mobile Radiographic and Fluoroscopic units
    • Mammographic units
    • Computed Radiography Systems
    • Computed Tomography units (CT)

Skills:

  • Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.

Note: Because of the changing nature of the work and work to be done, other responsibilities and duties may be assigned and qualifications may be adjusted from time to time. This position will involve training and assignments in CT. Only applicants moving onto the testing/interview stages will be contacted.
