Registered Practical Nurse – Women & Children’s Health Program- Maternal Child – Part Time – 790-976-2021

Duties:

  1. Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
  2. Effectively use the Standards of nursing practice and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  3. Provide health teaching to patients and family.
  4. Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
  5. Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development.
  6. Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  7. Remain current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
  8. Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
  9. Participate in research opportunities.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:             

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Current Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation required or enrolled in program.
  • Current certification in venipuncture (I.V. therapy).

Experience:

  • Post-partum, experience recent within the last 5 years
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the care of post-operative patients.
  • Post-Partum experience with experience in:
    • a) Breastfeeding
    • b) Maternal Child Care
    • c) Newborn Care
    • d) Gestational Age Assessments

Ability:

  • Meet physical demands of the job, including extended standing, walking, lifting and climbing using proper technique.
  • Willingness to cross train in all areas of the Maternal Child Program.
  • Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).
  • Competence in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
