Registered Practical Nurse- Ambulatory Care- Part Time (4)

Ambulatory Care is an outpatient department, which provides service to patients with varying needs such as care in the areas of: urology, colposcopy, minor procedures and surgery, orthopedics, medication administration, transfusion services, and pre / post-operative care and education.  

Duties:

  1. Provide nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses, organizational and unit standards.
  2. Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in provision of patient care.
  3. Responsible for making clinical decisions, exercising judgment to ensure best possible nursing care is provided within available resources.
  4. Provide health teaching to patients and family.
  5. Is cognizant of and participates in the development of the Nursing and Unit objectives.
  6. Is compliant with legislation, organizational/departmental, regulations, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety

Qualifications:             

  • Current certificate of competency in Ontario.
  • IV therapy competency.
  • Minimum 2 years recent related experience required.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the care and management of patients requiring:

    1. Ostomy and wound care.
    2. Surgical procedures, including aseptic technique.
    3. Orthopedic care, including cast care.
    4. Urology care, including assisting with procedures such as cystoscopy.
    5. Pre and post-operative assessment, care and education.
    6. Minimally invasive medical procedures.

Ability:

  • Ability to demonstrate competency in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Demonstrated ability to function efficiently in a fast paced clinical setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
  • Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the Hospital’s mission, vision, and ICCARE values.
