Registered Nurse – In Home Mobile Withdrawal Management – Temporary Full Time

Purpose:

This service is intended to increase access to community withdrawal management services, for particularly hard to service clients.  The In Home Mobile Withdrawal Management Registered Nurse will support the medical management of clients who are withdrawing from substance by meeting them where they are at: whether within the home, in a supportive recovery facility, shelter, or other places that a person is residing.

Duties:

  1. The RN will focus to develop therapeutic relationships with clients that build on trust and reliability; motivational-interviewing skills to capitalize on client’s motivation; harm reduction strategies to nurture a safe environment, supportive client link to available social supports.
  2. The RN must be willing to work in an outreach capacity, which may include supporting individuals via community wellness bus initiative; virtually and/or by telephone.
  3. Work with care providers system-wide on initiatives intended to identify and implement best practices
  4. Contribute to the development of a “community of practice” nursing model
  5. Assist with the development of clinical guidelines and protocols, promoting the use of research and evidence-based practice to guide client-centred care.
  6. Training or experience in culturally safe care provision.

Qualifications:             

  • Certification with Addiction Care & Treatment Certificate (UBC)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate is required.
  • Current certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required.
  • Current certification in Non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI).
  • Valid G Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in a mental health and/or addictions capacity is preferred.
  • Nursing experience working with those impacted by addictions and mental health in either an inpatient unit or community setting.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and how these can impact marginalized populations. Knowledge of Quality and Risk Management Programs
  • Experience and training specific to care of individuals struggling with addictions and substance use disorders.
  • Experience and training specific to the implementation of trauma informed care.
  • Experience in the development of strategies to build capacity and improve health outcomes.
  • Experience and competence with medical nursing, physical health assessment and management of acute intoxication and withdrawal
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to patient and family-centered care
  • Demonstrated passion for change and ongoing improvement in support of patient care and safety
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and application of recovery, harm reduction, addiction treatment, pharmacotherapy, motivational interviewing and trauma informed approaches
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of legislation which guides mental health and addiction nursing practice (example, Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act)

Skills and Ability:

  • Involved with decision-making process on hospital, program and other committees or working groups as appropriate.
  • Provide input and assist with the development of program operating plans and processes.
  • Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development by remaining current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
