Registered Nurse – Diagnostic Imaging – Part Time – 877-1088-2021

Purpose:

The Registered Nurse – Diagnostic Imaging is responsible for having a thorough knowledge and able to assist with a variety of Interventional procedures in the Diagnostic Imaging Department including but not limited to CT, Ultrasound and Interventional Radiology.  The RN will assist the Interventional team during the placement of several different types of  intravascular guidewires, catheters, stents, and biopsy/drainage instruments. The RN will be responsible for the insertion of some PICC lines. Along with other members of the DI team, the RN will also be responsible for the monitoring of patients during these procedures as required. Maintaining an inventory of the specialized items is a required duty.

Duties:

  1. Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
  2. Effectively use the Standards of Nursing Practice and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  3. Provide health teaching to patients and family.
  4. Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
  5. Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development by remaining current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
  6. Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  7. Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
  8. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
  9. Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care
  10. Compliant with the Collaborative Practice Document
  11. Assist with the performance of a variety of Angiographic and Interventional procedures with a corresponding knowledge of catheters, sheaths and guidewires.
  12. Along with other members of the DI team, prepare a variety of Sterile set ups dependent on the specific procedure.
  13. Patient monitoring and troubleshooting during the procedures.
  14. Following certification and proper training complete and assist on PICC line insertions.
  15. Document and update all required nursing information Ensure PICC catheters are removed when no longer required.
  16. Identify areas for improvement and explores opportunities to improve quality of care.
  17. Participate in reviews of systems and processes to optimize efficiencies.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:             

  • Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario in good standing.

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in a technical RN setting (ICU, OR, CARDIAC CATH) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Competency in the application of the College of Nurses Standards.
  • Competency in nursing care appropriate to specific clinical area.
  • Knowledge and Skills specific to the position.
  • Competency in ACLS
  • Must be willing to complete required courses to achieve competency in PICC line insertion.
  • Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of; a Variety of Angiographic Catheters, Patient Monitoring Equipment, and PICC lines

Ability:

  •  Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
