Patient Referral Clerk – Algoma District Cancer Program – Temporary Full Time

Purpose of Position:

Completes the new patient booking process for all patients referred to the Algoma District Cancer Program (ADCP), following the SAH ADCP booking guidelines and ensuring accuracy and timely completion of the referral process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform clerical duties including but not limited to maintaining an inventory of all required forms and general office supplies.
  2. Receive and process all new ADCP patient referrals.
  3. Pre-register and schedule patient appointments.
  4. Complete physician orders.
  5. Provide patients with accurate appointment information and follow up when required.
  6. Receive and send all pertinent patient information to external facilities when necessary. Maintain confidentiality of information.
  7. Maintain and report monthly new patient statistical data.
  8. Assist with preparation of patient cases for biweekly MCC physician rounds.
  9. Participate in orientation of staff.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Diploma in Health Office Administration required

 

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology
  2. Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations. Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
  3. Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  4. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
  5. Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner. Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.
  6. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
  7. Ability to register and schedule patients according to the policies of SAH and ADCP.
  8. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment including experience in the development of spreadsheets, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Visio.
  9. Proficiency and accuracy in clerical tasks including data entry, keyboarding, filing systems, documentation etc.
  10. Knowledge of hospital software applications such as Meditech, Xerox, Mosaiq and Community Wide Scheduling, ADM, ADT and Order Entry.
  11. Maintain a working knowledge of standard outpatient clinic practices, procedures and policies.

 

Note: Because of the changing nature of the work and work to be done, other responsibilities and duties may be assigned and qualifications may be adjusted from time to time.      

               

This position is covered by a collective agreement. Applications from outside the bargaining unit are welcome, but can only be considered if the position is not filled from within the bargaining unit.
