Mental Health Worker- Transition House- Temporary Part Time

Duties:

  1. Supervise and assistant residents with household chores such as cooking, cleaning, meal planning, budgeting and grocery shopping.
  2. Teach and monitor safety protocols and ensure that the facility is clean and safe.
  3. Provide accurate and detailed feedback regarding on-site visits by applicants to the program.
  4. Monitor resident medication protocol, and continually educate and encourage each resident to establish healthy habits regarding their medications.
  5. Monitor resident behaviour and apply appropriate crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques as necessary.
  6. Work with multi-disciplinary team to develop appropriate goals and plans for each resident, including continued to monitoring of the plan’s effectiveness and resident’s progress.
  7. Plan, encourage and monitor individual resident’s participation in education, support and social programs and events within the community.
  8. Provide appropriate feedback to physicians, family and the multi-disciplinary team.
  9. Provide support to the Crisis phone line; responding appropriately to each call, directing calls as necessary to Crisis Intervention.
  10. Complete all required documentation and data collection.

Qualifications:

  • Two year community college diploma in a Human Service program.
  • Current BCLS
  • Current First Aid certification.

Experience:

  • Previous employment in a residential human service setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of mental health programs, mental illness and psychiatric medication.
  • Demonstrated assessment, communication and crisis Intervention skills.
  • Demonstrated effective social rehabilitation skills.

Ability:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
