Charge Technologist- Biomedical Technologist- Biomedical Engineering- Full Time

Purpose of Position:

The Charge Technologist, Bio-Medical Engineering administers and directs the Biomedical Technologists, a self-contained team which assumes responsibility to provide service, training and establish a preventative maintenance program for patient-applied medical devices; provides the technical expertise to the multidisciplinary team in conjunction with appropriate support to ensure service excellence and courteous, helpful, and respectful services to clients; and functions as a practicing technician on the team.

Duties:

  1. Plan and coordinate of the day-to-day operations of the Bio-Medical engineering team.
  2. Perform electrical equipment pre-acceptance checks and incoming inspections.
  3. Test electro-medical equipment for performance assurance and ensuring proper functioning.
  4. Provide clinical training of electro-medical equipment to staff as required.
  5. Evaluate the capabilities of electro-medical equipment and providing advice as to whether new equipment should be purchased.
  6. Perform preventive maintenance and quality assurance procedures on medical equipment to ensure proper functionality and patient safety.
  7. Repair patient applied medical equipment.
  8. Manage the life cycle of medical equipment.
  9. Order replacement parts for the continued safe operation of all medical equipment for the department.
  10. Provide Biomedical Engineering financial reports monthly.
  11. Participate in inter-department committees.
  12. Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  13. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.

Qualifications:             

  • Graduate of a recognized Bio-Medical Engineering program or equivalent education and experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
  • Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation – Health Canada requirements for medical device licensing.
